White pine woodblock carving |
Here’s a woodblock carving I created during Robert Hinchley’s Experimental Printmaking class at
Pontiac School of the Arts, located in Portage-du-Fort, Québec. While first glancing at the white-pine block, I immediately interpreted the large knot as a horse’s eye – and so my carving was born.
The technique is reduction – where you take prints from the block in one colour, then reduce (carve away) more of the block, repeatedly printing in more colours, as desired.

Framed woodblock print (one of several printed in different colours) |
This is a green, yellow and black reduction print. I possess many other prints made from this block – and they’re still for sale.
